After five remarkable years as the Head and Dean of Archbishop Vining College of Theology, Akure, the Venerable Dr Stephen Ayodeji Fagbemi has been appointed as the General Secretary of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion). On behalf of the entire college community we congratulate him and his family on this great appointment.
Our Apostle of Positive Change is leaving
Dr Fagbemi and his family returned to Nigeria in the summer of 2011 to become the Dean of the college. His tenure witnessed remarkable progress and monumental achievements. His transformation programme under the ‘Every Soul Matters’ agenda brought unprecedented change and renewal to every aspect of college life to the point that he was nicknamed ‘the apostle of change’. The entire community, staff and students, and the chapel were truly blessed by his ministry and initiatives. Wherever you look in the college, positive change is evident, as rooted in his ‘Every Soul Matters’ agenda that called for mutual respect, care and love for one another and special care for the environment. This is a driving philosophy that encourages self-esteem among human beings as the climax of God’s creature and passion for outreach and the sharing of good news.
In a similar way his wife has been working assiduously among the clergy wives and women of the Chapel while his children were making their own contributions to both the college and the Chapel of the Annunciation. Mrs Florence Fagbemi demonstrated her motherly instincts and love for the students so much that she was given the title of Senior Advocate of Vining (SAV) for her timely intervention on their behalf and for her many useful counsels to them.
A farewell service has been fixed for Sunday the 11th of September, 2016@10am. The entire community of Archbishop Vining College shall miss them. But they go with our prayers to their next appointment serving the entire Church of Nigeria at the centre.
